July 4th at Niagara

This July 4th we headed out to Niagara Falls. We thought we will stop at Pittsburg first. The stop was great and the food always is excellent. We were sitting right in front of the deity while getting the Archana done. I had a revelation that there will be no insecurity in my life in the future – it was overwhelming as this just popped out of my heart.

The drive from Pittsburgh to Niagara was grossly under estimated. I had thought 3 hours but we reached the Falls at only 8:30 PM, well after 6 hours! We went straight to the falls to view the fireworks though it was still an hour early. Parking was a challenge, but we managed some place on Goat Island and walked well over 1/2 a mile to the Falls. I had my Manfrotto 680B Monopod (4-SCTN) – Replaces 680 (Black) with me to try out. I started taking some pictures in the twilight. They all look great on the small LCD screen anyway!

The fireworks was alright, but gave me the opportunity I wanted. I put the Rebel in Bulb mode and exposed each shot anywhere from 2 to 5 secs. The results were far better than I expected. Here is one of them. The monopod is a keeper anyway. It would sway a bit due to the fully extended length and the higher wind, but the results were impressive.

The next morning, we covered the Maid of the mist, Hurricane deck and the IMAX. There was a two hour wait for the Hurricane deck (Cave of the Winds) – the longest I have ever stood in a line including an amusement park. We start around 4:15 PM after grabbing some pizza in the Visitor’s center. The drive back home was a total of 6 hours excluding the 15 minute break for coffee.
