It is rare that anyone can thank the IRS. In August we got the dreaded notice that we hadn’t declared some taxable stock transactions for the tax year 2009. There was this daunting letter about penalties and time to respond, etc. After the initial surprise, we contacted our Accountant who found out that indeed those transactions were missed out. After a quick review, he found out that we had actually incurred a loss. So we filed an amendment. The net result, we got a refund of some two hundred dollars!! Thank you, IRS! Any money back is welcome.
