The weekend started with some excitement. We had to attend Navarathri celebration at a friend’s place. All those I met were totally new to me. I had a good conversation with a friend there who mentioned the book and video on YouTube ‘The Exponential Organization’ and another one similar in character. Fall has set in, the trees are changing color though slowly. It has been pretty overcast past few days. Saturday, we had a Karaoke party with a few friends. Exciting part was my Bisi Bele Bath. It took me about 90 minutes with some help. Bisi Bele Bath means ‘hot lentil rice’. There is equal mix of rice and lentils in it per our the typical recipe. Then there is vegetables – I had added carrots, green peppers, snow peas and green beans. Many restaurants don’t add any or much vegetables taking away a lot from overall nutrition and interest. Both rice and lentils, I cooked separately making sure the rice isn’t mushy. The signature taste for the bath or BBB in short comes from the spices. It is a mix of coriander, dry coconut, tomatoes, tamarind, jaggery, fenu greek seeds, dry red chillis and some cloves and cinnamon. The items in the latter group are first roasted (except the tamarind, tomatoes and jaggery), then ground into powder. Mixing it with tomatoes, jaggery and tamarind into a paste. Once you stir fry the green peppers, snow peas, you can steam cook the vegetables making sure they retain their crispness. Mix the cooked rice and lentils and ground spices with the vegetables and bring to a boil. Add the spices mix to the vegetables first, boil for few minutes and then add the rice and lentils. It was well received. The karaoke party itself went well spanning about four hours. I sang a few solos and duets. One duet, it was all me. I somehow wasn’t able to find my voice as I was preoccupied throughout. To sing well, you must be absolutely relaxed. Unless relaxed, I can’t find my elements. This is so surprising i.e., not being totally relaxed because when I sing in our home, I am just fine. Me being relaxed even makes me creative during singing. There were some other very good renderings. Overall a great Saturday!
I thought we will go for a walk on Sunday, but the weather was gloomy most of the day and the clouds opened up only mid afternoon. By then I had been watching the Eagles-Lions game for a very disappointing end – the Eagles threw away a game-in-hand in the last 90 seconds. The walk never happened. The Clinton-Trump debate consumed all of the evening and I was way too dull to get any stretching myself. I guess knowing that I would be starting on a new project with cross-country travel was in the back of my mind throughout the weekend and was a factor in a low-energy weekend.
