BEST South Indian veggie place in the Bay Area. I like the place as it is totally vegetarian. Dosas were meant to be vegetarian always – the taste is that of the batter and its texture is what makes it a dosa. Adding chicken or lamb takes away the its true authenticity and is purely a popularity serve. Food tastes great at this place. Well worth the 2 1/2 mile Uber ride each way everyday this week while I was a San Fran. Try the Thali, if you haven’t. I loved the broccoli gojju (they might have a different name for it) and the badam halwa that came with it. The medu vada was good too. Ever since I found this, I never go to the other DOSAs in the Bay Area. Service is good and friendly too. With the busy evenings, you can still get in and out pretty fast without too much of waiting.

Another place I visit while near Market Street is Pizza on Mission. They have a California Veggie and a pure Vegan pizza. Both are very good though I lean towards the California Veggie without the mushrooms. The place is unpretentious with a few tables. They keep the door open all the time, I guess to save on the air conditioning, so pick a table away from the door if you don’t like the rush of air cooling yourself and your food often. Be prepared as you might be surprised by the homeless who visit the place – thus, this is not for your typical weekday evening business get together. Despite the better pizzas and price, the place hasn’t been very crowded whenever I have visited for dinner. I guess that is true of many of the umpteen restaurants in the area.
