April 2nd, 2017 will be a memorable day for us. We watched Padmashri Pandit Kadri Gopalnath play his saxophone at the Upper Merion Middle School in King of Prussia. He was accompanied by Padmashri Kanyakumari on the violin, Thanjavur Sri T. R. Govindarajan on Thavil Pandit Sri. Rajendra Nakod on Tabla. The music was divine and enthralling. We had some photo opportunities. The evening was even better. One of our friends had invited the troupe for dinner and we were too. So we got to spend the evening talking to Padmashree recipients – what an honor. I talked to Pandit Gopalnath talked in Kannada; he was born in Mangalore district at Kadri in Karnataka. Vidushi Kanyakumari is such a wonderful, child-like personality with an amazing history. She had performed continuously for 29 hours at the Padmanabha Swamy temple in Trivandrum and had played 100 instruments. She has even invented many instruments. Both their mastery was undisputed. Govindarajan and Rajendra Naked were also amazing. They had a jugalbandi for about 15-20 minutes towards the end and it was totally entertaining.
